Little Lions Literacy is proud to announce that the Little Lions Decodable Books have been vetted and approved for quality by the Reading League and can be found on their list of recommended books.

The Little Lions Decodable Books are a collection of stories written for the beginning reader. Based on the Science of Reading (SOR), these books are filled with colorful characters to make reading a fun adventure. Each book introduces new phonics skills while reinforcing previously taught letters, sounds, and reading comprehension.

Decodable books are simple and easy reading books for children to practice the phonics skills that they have been taught.  Most teachers use decodable phonics books when they teach phonics lessons.  Children can immediately practice segmenting, blending, and sounding out words.

The Reading League is a national nonprofit organization that promotes literacy education and reading instruction rooted in the Science of Reading.  The Science of Reading is reading research which supports the use of decodable books as children learn to read.  Teaching reading using a phonics approach is a key element to the Science of Reading.

The Reading League’s Decodable Text Source is a list of recommended decodable books that provide teachers and parents with a starting point to help choose high-quality decodable text choices that best align with instructional goals.
