PRIDE Level Assessment

The first step to using the PRIDE Reading Program begins with your student being placed in the proper PRIDE level.  We always recommend placing your student in levels 1-3 no matter what age they are.  The PRIDE Reading Program is cumulative and each level builds upon the previous one. It is crucial that the students have no gaps in their reading or spelling. Therefore, if your students has never had any PRIDE or Orton-Gillingham training before, take the Level 1-3 placement test below.

If your student has already had PRIDE or Orton-Gillingham tutoring and you believe they might be able to start in Levels 4-6, please look at our Scope and Sequence to determine where you believe your student is best placed.

The assessment below is designed to help place your student at the appropriate level of the PRIDE Reading Program.    If you know your student’s reading and spelling abilities,  use this test as a guide to help you place your student.  If you are not sure of their reading and spelling abilities, use this test to check.  We recommend you stop the test when three letters or words are misread or misspelled in any one question.  You can say the sound or word twice, but we recommend you do not help your student by breaking down the phonemes or sounds of the words.  This assessment will help you place your student in the PRIDE Reading Program by assessing your student’s phonemic awareness and knowledge of spelling rules.  As state above, “It is crucial that your student have no gaps in their reading or spelling.”  For this reason, we do not recommend placing your student in levels above their assessed level.
