Frequently Asked Questions About Our Homeschool Reading Curriculum

What age group is this homeschool reading curriculum designed for?

The PRIDE Reading Program serves learners from pre-kindergarten through adult. Our Beginning Letters & Sounds level starts with basic letter recognition and CVC word blending for early readers, while Books 1 through 5 progress through short vowels, digraphs, long vowels, multi-syllable words, vowel teams, and advanced phonics patterns. A separate Reading Comprehension program supports older students who can decode but need help understanding what they read.

How much does the PRIDE Reading Program cost?

Program kits range from $49.95 to $159.85 per level, depending on the book. Each kit includes a printed Teaching Guide and Student Workbook. Individual workbooks start at $24.95, and online Teaching Guides are available from $15.00 to $65.00. We also accept ClassWallet, Step Up for Students, and Odyssey Scholarship payments in qualifying states.

Do I need special training to teach this Orton-Gillingham curriculum at home?

No prior training is required. Every lesson in the PRIDE Reading Program is fully scripted, so you simply follow the Teaching Guide step by step. The guide tells you exactly what to say, what materials to use, and how to respond to student errors. Parents, tutors, and teachers around the world use PRIDE without any Orton-Gillingham certification or prior teaching experience.

Is this the best homeschool reading curriculum for students with dyslexia?

PRIDE was built on the Orton-Gillingham method, which research supports as one of the most effective structured literacy approaches for students with dyslexia. The program uses explicit, systematic, multisensory instruction that engages visual, auditory, and kinesthetic pathways. Students must reach 80% mastery on each skill before moving forward, so no gaps are left behind. PRIDE won the 2023 Blue Ribbon Award for Favorite Learn to Read program from the Old Schoolhouse Homeschool Influencer Network.

What makes PRIDE different from other homeschool reading programs?

Three things set PRIDE apart. First, every lesson is fully scripted, which eliminates preparation time and guesswork. Second, the program is a complete system that includes curriculum, assessment, placement tools, and support rather than separate components you piece together. Third, PRIDE follows a diagnostic approach where each lesson is adjusted based on how the student performed in the previous one, keeping instruction personalized without requiring the parent to design lesson plans.

How long does each PRIDE Reading lesson take?

Most lessons take 30 to 45 minutes. Each session follows a structured format that includes a visual drill with phonogram cards, an auditory drill, sound blending practice, review of previously taught skills, introduction of a new concept, spelling work, sentence work, and oral reading with decodable text. The pace adapts to your child, so some lessons may be shorter or longer depending on how quickly they master each skill.
